EXECUTION - STAGE 01

STEP 01

Prepare the hoop with the stabilizer.

PASSO 02

Place the machine with the Juba and Ears embroidery frame and run the first color, which will be the marking.

MATS:
(Monkey) ears.
(Zebra) mane and ears.

THREAD AND NEEDLE

Use the same thread color in the machine and in the bobbin for the next steps.

STEP 03

Place the camel felt piece measuring 4.7 x 3.1 in on the front of the hoop, aligned with the first marking, and the felt piece measuring 3.1 x 2.0 in at the lower marking. On the back, place the second camel felt piece measuring 4.7 x 3.1 in over the first one and secure it with masking tape around the edges.

STEP 03 - MONKEY

Place the brown felt piece for the ears measuring 3.5 x 2.0 in on the front of the hoop, aligned with the marking, and secure it with masking tape.

STEP 03 - ZEBRA

Place the gray felt piece measuring 2.8 x 4.7 in on the top marking, the pink felt piece measuring 3.1 x 2.8 in on the center marking, and the white felt piece for the ears measuring 3.9 x 2.4 in on the lower marking, as shown in the photo below. Secure it with masking tape.

This photo is only to show the position of the felt pieces and how it will look after embroidery.

STEP 04 - LION / MONKEY

Take the material to the machine and embroider, fixing the fabric and marking the inner part of the lion and monkey ears. The zebra does not have any marking on the ears.

STEP 05

Place the camel felt piece measuring 2.8 x 1.6 in over the bottom felt piece for the inner part of the ears, then secure it with masking tape, return it to the machine, and stitch the embroidery.

STEP 05 - MONKEY

Place the salmon felt piece measuring 3.1 x 1.6 in over the center marking and secure it with masking tape. Return it to the machine and stitch the embroidery.

STEP 05 - Zebra

Take it to the machine and embroider the details of the ears

STEP 06

Cut away the excess camel felt only from the inner part of the little ears, then return it to the machine and embroider the blanket stitch finish around the cut felt.

STEP 06 - MONKEY

Cut away the excess salmon felt and return it to the machine, then embroider the blanket stitch finish.

STEP 07

From the back of the hoop, place the other brown felt piece for the outer part of the ears, measuring 3.1 x 2.0 in, and secure it with masking tape. Take it back to the machine and embroider, then continue with the hoop in the machine and stitch the last color, which is the details of the mane and ears.

STEP 07 - MONKEY

From the back of the hoop, place the other brown felt piece for the outer part of the ears, measuring 3.1 x 2.0 in, and secure it with masking tape. Take it back to the machine and embroider, then continue with the hoop in the machine and stitch the last color, which is the details of the ears.

STEP 07 - ZEBRA

From the back of the hoop, place the other gray felt piece measuring 2.8 x 4.7 in and the white felt pieces for the ears measuring 3.9 x 2.4 in, then secure them with masking tape. The ears are not an appliqué; they are only a felt piece. Take it back to the machine and embroider, then continue with the hoop in the machine and stitch the last color, which is the details of the mane and ears.

STEP 08

Remove the hoop from the machine. Cut along the stitch line on the edges of each piece, as shown in the photos below. Keep the pieces for assembly into the little heads (Stage 02).

NOTE

If preferred, sew a running stitch around the edges of each felt piece so the white batting does not show through.

EXECUTION - STAGE 02

STEP 01

Prepare the hoop with the stabilizer.

STEP 02

Place the LION HEAD frame in the machine and run the first color, which will be the placement stitch.

STEP 03

Place the beige felt piece measuring 3.9 x 3.5 in for the head over the marking, and secure it with masking tape. Run the machine to stitch the placement and the snout marking.

STEP 04

Place the cream felt piece measuring 2.0 x 2.4 in for the snout over the marking and secure it with masking tape. Take it to the machine and stitch the embroidery. After finishing, cut away the excess cream felt from the snout.

STEP 05

Return it to the machine and embroider the snout outline and the color sequence for each little head.

LION AND MONKEY: next 4 colors.
ZEBRA: next 6 colors.

PASSO 06

Place the reserved ear pieces from Stage 01, stitched as shown by the arrows, positioning each ear on the correct side, right and left, with a little tension so the machine needle does not hit the ears and so they do not slip out. Secure well with masking tape.

STEP 07

Take it back to the machine and stitch the ears in place. After securing, remove the masking tape.

STEP 08

On the front of the hoop, place another 3.9 x 3.5 in piece of felt over the back piece of the head and secure it with masking tape. For a better finish, the machine and bobbin thread should be the same color as the fabric, so the stitching does not show too much. Return it to the machine and run the placement stitch.

PASSO 09

Remove it from the machine and take it out of the hoop. Tear away the stabilizer and cut the felt around the little head, leaving a little extra felt at the opening so it can be turned and sewn closed.

STEP 10

Turn the little head right side out, stuff it with acrylic filling, and close it with an invisible stitch. Position the head on the mug rug and stitch the mane points and the crown. Place the lion cub and sew it onto the zebra head. Keep it aside for the next assembly in Stage 03.
