Step by Step Independence Day Gnomes

PROJECT NEEDS:

- Hoop
- 02 pieces of tear away stabilizer
- 02 pieces of fabric of choice (01 for the front and for the back. We used felt fabric in this project)
- 01 piece of non-woven fabric: weight 80
- Scissors
- Masking tape
- Embroidery threads matching the colors of the design
- Bobbin thread matching the color of the design border
- Key rings
- Craft knife

STEP BY STEP - PART 01

STEP 01

- First, place a piece of tear away stabilizer.
Then sew the placement stitches. They will indicate the exact spot where you should position your fabric.

STEP 02

- Place the felt fabric on top of the placement stitches and use the masking tape to help holding the fabric.

- Next, sew the tackdown stitches. It will attach the applique fabric (felt) to your tear away stabilizer fabric. After the tackdown, run the design until it finishes the back of the keychain.

STEP 03

- After finishing, remove your embroidered design from the hoop and keep it until the step it will be needed.

STEP BY STEP - PART 02

STEP 01

- First, place a piece of tear away stabilizer.
- Then sew the placement stitches. They will indicate the exact spot where you should position your fabric.

STEP 02

- Place the non-woven fabric on top of the placement stitches. Additionally, place the felt fabric on top of the non-woven fabric. In this case, you will end up having three layers, from bottom to top:

1) tear away stabilizer, which is hooped;
2) non-woven fabric and;
3) felt fabric.

- Use the masking tape to help holding the non-woven and felt fabrics to the stabilizer.

STEP 03

- Sew the tackdown stitches. It will attach the applique fabric (non-woven fabric and felt) to the tear away stabilizer.
- After the tackdown, run the design until the first Outline placement stitches are finished (red color in our image example).

STEP BY STEP - PART 03

STEP 01

- After finishing the previous steps you will need to have these two embroideries ready.

STEP 02

- Change the bobbin thread to match the same color of your Outline finishing.

- Take the back of the keychain and align it properly with the placement mark in the back of the hoop where the front part was embroidered.

- Use the masking tape to help hold it in place.
Next, run the tackdown stitches.

STEP 03

- Remove the hoop from the machine. Carefully, trim all excessive fabric that gets out of the edges (felt fabric and non-woven fabric). This procedure must be done in the front and the back of the design
