Step by Step

MATERIALS NEEDED

01 - Adhesive tape
02 - Regular scissors
03 - Fine-point scissors
04 - Tear-away stabilizer
05 - One bobbin with white thread and another bobbin with the thread color of your choice for the final outline (here, black thread is used)
06 - 10 x 10 cm hoop or another compatible size
07 - One eyelet and keychain chain or ring (optional)
08 - Embroidery threads in the colors of your choice
09 - Two pieces of synthetic fabric measuring 12 cm x 12 cm (here, pearl-finish synthetic with cotton mesh backing, 0.8 mm thick was used)

NOTE: If using an eyelet, you'll need a press tool or eyelet pliers, not shown in the photo above.

STEP 01

– Hoop the tear-away stabilizer.

STEP 02

– Place the bobbin with white thread in the machine.

STEP 03

– Place the hoop in the machine.
– It will stitch the placement line where the synthetic fabric will go.

STEP 04

– Place the synthetic fabric over the placement line, fully covering it.
– Tape down all corners using masking tape.

STEP 05

– Take the hoop back to the machine.
– It will look like this after stitching.

STEP 06

– Continue stitching according to the embroidery file.

STEP 07

– Once the top stitching is complete, remove the hoop from the machine.

STEP 08

– Turn the hoop over. In this step, you will place the second piece of synthetic fabric, covering the entire design.

STEP 09

– Place the second synthetic piece right side up and tape all corners with masking tape.

STEP 10

– Change the bobbin to match the top thread color (here, black is used).

STEP 11

– Return the hoop to the machine.
– It will stitch the bottom synthetic layer, as shown in the image.

STEP 12

– Remove the hoop and cut around the final stitching, leaving just a few millimeters of space from the seam.

STEP 13

– Using fine-point scissors, make a small cut to insert the key ring or chain.
– This is also the time to add the eyelet, if preferred.

AND DONE!

– Your beautiful alien keychain is now complete!
